Psycholegal Assessments and Court Reports

All Psycholegal appointments will be booked with our Principle Psychologist Paul Stevenson.

Enquiring as an individual?
Usually you’re seeking a psychological assessment for yourself or a family member for one or more of the following reasons:

  • You’ve sustained a significant trauma (motor vehicle accident, workplace injury, assault or natural disaster).
  • You’ve witnessed another person (perhaps a loved one) being hurt.
  • You’re worried about your children (perhaps residency or guardianship, their experience of divorce or separation, or Access arrangements).
  • You’re worried about your child’s learning ability or intelligence (perhaps autism, Asperger’s Syndrome or ADHD).
  • You’re worried about your own diminishing faculties (perhaps dementia or Alzheimer’s).
  • You need to change your Will and you need to prove your soundness of mind.
  • You need help staying in Australia as a visa resident.
  • You’ve wound up in Court, and need help with your defence.

Enquiring as a Lawyer?
More than likely, you’ll be seeking assistance for your client pertinent to one or more of the above situations. You’ll need a psychologist with credibility, ability and expertise.

Credibility
Paul’s qualifications and experience stem forty-eight (48) years. Paul is a Fellow and the former National President of the Australian Association of Psychologists. He has four University degrees (to masters level), and has lectured in Psychology at the University of Queensland, Griffith and Bond Universities. Paul is also a published author of four psychology texts.

Ability
Paul has conducted psychotherapy with thousands of patients during his career, within the public and private sectors, and in hospitals, clinics and Private Practice. He has also completed more than five (500) hundred (possible as many as 1,000 by now) psychological assessments for WorkCover, Insurance Companies, Accident & Injury Solicitors, Criminal Barristers, Immigration Lawyers and Family Law Solicitors. Paul has comprehensive psychological knowledge and practical experience of rehabilitation, pain and injury management, alcoholism and drug dependence, trauma management, pre-sentencing, parole and probation requirements, Family Law Court counselling, and mediation. Paul’s skills in Court Report writing are of the highest standard. He uses the most appropriate (restricted) psychological tests (including P.I.R.S.) to back up every assertion, culminating in highly defensible recommendations.

Expertise
Paul has a Medal of the Order of Australia and a United Nations Award for services to Psychology both in Australia and internationally. He has also appeared as a Court appointed (expert) witness on many occasions.

Assessment Process
An assessment usually requires an interview with the client or patient over about two or three hours. The interpretation of results and preparation of the Court Report can take several more. The cost, however, is stable. The Court Report can be prepared urgently (within a day) and emailed or couriered if required. If not urgent, a signed copy will be posted within one week. Court attendance is offered in all cases, but is charged separately.

Costing
The cost of a standard assessment and report is $1,980.00 (GST included), and almost all are charged at this rate. Court attendance is charged at $375.00 per hour (whether in person or by telephone). You’ll be asked to pay a $990.00 deposit prior to starting, and the entire balance must be paid at the time of the appointment. Your deposit will be forfeited should you cancel your appointment (in accordance with the APS recommended fee schedule).
